BME Student Named 2013 Goldwater Scholar

Annicka Carter, an undergraduate majoring in Biomedical Engineering, has been named a 2013 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. Goldwater Scholars are selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,107 mathematics, science and engineering students nationwide.

BME Team Shines at Innovation Competition

Team Troclosure, composed of three Biomedical Engineering students, recently won the grand prize of $15,000 and an additional $5,000 for "Best Business Idea" at the 2013 Bench-2-Bedside competition at the University of Utah. The team invented a device to help surgeons suture the inside of the hole created when doing laparoscopic surgery.

Jeff Weiss Selected for Van Mow Medal

A special reception for Bioengineering Prof. Jeff Weiss at this summer’s ASME Summer Bioengineering Conference will recognize his selection as the 2013 Van Mow Medal Recipient. The highly competitive Van Mow Medal is ASME's highest honor for a mid-career bioengineer.
