Every year, the Department of Biomedical Engineering hosts the Utah Biomedical Engineering Conference (UBEC), a multidisciplinary research meeting that assembles students and professionals from the Intermountain West dedicated to advancing the field of Biomedical Engineering. The department’s objective in annually hosting the conference is to feature regional impactful biomedical research that should be disseminated in collaboration with students, researchers, industry and healthcare professionals.

Biomedical Engineering encompasses a broad network of disciplines from basic science to clinical translation. UBEC promotes student and researcher collaboration to develop solutions to society’s most urgent and pressing healthcare needs. In 2021, UBEC moved to a fully virtual format, allowing participant growth, new presentation venues and format, a more convenient flexible combination synchronous/asynchronous viewing platform and conference expansion.  UBEC 2021 hosted over 200 participants from 7 departments at the University of Utah, 4 institutions in the Intermountain West, and prospective BME students from around the world.  Former BME alum, Julie Jay (Roche scientist), provided an inspiring keynote lecture. We look forward to convening everyone again for UBEC 2022!
