Current Research

The goal of our lab is to understand and improve sensorimotor function following neural injury and disease. To accomplish this goal, we primarily use implanted and non-invasive spinal neuroprostheses to stimulate spinal sensorimotor pathways. We are an interdisciplinary lab that works across the spectrum of translation, from preclinical to clinical studies. Our research combines many techniques, including electrical stimulation, electrophysiology, signal processing, machine learning, motion capture, electromyography, neurosurgery, and electrochemistry.

Current Projects:

-Transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation to reduce phantom limb pain and restore sensation in people with lower-limb amputation

-Spinal cord stimulation to improve walking function after neural injury

-Machine learning prediction of gait transitions

-Preclinical testing of implanted neural interfaces
